National ban on deportation

When you have filed an asylum application and the three forms of protection – right to asylum, protection as a refugee and subsidiary protection – do not apply, a review is done to see if you are subject to a ban on deportation.

A ban on deportation means that the authorities in Germany are not permitted to send you back to your country of origin under certain circumstances.

An obstacle to deportation is when you are threatened with a violation of the European Convention on Human Rights or great danger to life and limb, for example on account of a severe illness that cannot be treated in your country of origin (further information “HIV infection as an obstacle to deportation”).
